How do we use personal data?
The purpose of data use and main examples
To provide services to our users appropriately
The household accounting apps Money Forward ME and Money Forward Sensei display our users’ account information from cooperating financial institutions and shopping history from credit cards. They also provide information on changes in assets and the status of household accounts.
Money Forward Fixed Cost Review and Money Forward Sumai determine and make suggestions for all relevant electricity, insurance, and communications expense services. They also provide information about assessment and valuation of owned real estate.
Money Forward Personal Financial Consulting uses personal data in order to introduce our users to financial planning companies they deem appropriate based on users’ circumstances.
Money Forward Career uses personal data in order to provide career consulting to our users and introduce them to companies that are recruiting.
We use our users’ registration information and information about the usage history of Money Forward services in order to respond appropriately to inquiries to each service.
To share advertisements and information as well as implement marketing suited to our users
For example, the household accounting app Money Forward ME analyzes information such as access logs including customers’ service usage history to share service information and advertisements suited to our respective users, in the app or via email.
We use information through external advertising distribution businesses, such as access logs for other companies’ services, in order to share advertisements for Money Forward services.
We use personal data in marketing activities, such as when requesting responses to user interviews or surveys.
To improve services or to plan for the development of new services
We use personal data not only to improve Money Forward services into better versions but also for reference in planning new services and to develop new features.
For example, the household accounting app Money Forward ME offers a feature which is able to grasp the status of investment assets owned by our users in detail.
We have also released Money Forward Fixed Cost Review and Money Forward Sumai by using household accounting data to solve our users’ problems.
To create statistical data that is not personally identifiable by aggregating and processing personal data
We may provide the results of advertisement distribution to advertisers as statistical data in order to report on the performance of third-party advertisements shared by Money Forward.
We may publish statistical data based on the results of surveys on consumer behavior carried out by Money Forward and use this data for joint research with external organizations.
Cases of providing personal data
Money Forward may provide personal data in the following cases.
Joint use in Money Forward Group
We use our users’ personal data and personal information jointly with Group companies within Japan in accordance with the purposes published in our Handling of Personal Information.

Money Forward Group’s provision to external entities
Provision for academic research and to public organizations
We may provide statistical data or data processed so as not to specify individuals to institutions with the objective of academic research, for the purpose of joint research or academic research.
For example, we have implemented the following initiatives.
・ Presentation of a research paper about the impact on household consumption of special cash payments during the pandemic
・ Notification to the Bank of Japan regarding research collaboration
Provision to partner financial institutions or business partners
We provide personal data in order for partner financial institutions or business partners to provide their services, after acquiring the consent of our users.
For example, the Money Forward for 〇〇 household accounting app for specified financial institution users provides data to those financial institutions, and Money Forward Fixed Cost provides data to cooperating electric power retailers and insurance companies.
We may provide data to handle defects that occur in Money Forward services.
We may jointly hold seminars or events and provide data to cooperating companies in order to manage the seminars or events, or we provide data for services’ guidance from those companies
Provision to companies that are recruiting
Money Forward Career provides data to companies that are recruiting in order to introduce our users to them.
Provision to advertising distribution businesses
We may provide information in a form that is not personally identifiable to advertising distribution businesses in order to share more relevant advertisements with our users.
