External integration APIs also released to drive the automation of accounting tasks via AI agents

Money Forward, Inc. has announced that starting today, the “Remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server” (hereafter “MCP Server”), which executes accounting tasks through AI agents, is available on all plans within its cloud-based accounting software, “Money Forward Cloud Accounting.” In conjunction with this release, the Company has opened up its external system integration APIs — previously limited to a select group of users — to all users across all plans.

Money Forward is now releasing the MCP Server and APIs — which were previously available only to select users — to all users across all plans. This will enable seamless data integration and autonomous task processing by AI, supporting the enhancement of back-office efficiency.

■ Provision of the MCP Server
The MCP Server Money Forward provides is an interface that connects AI agents (MCP clients) with “Money Forward Cloud Accounting.” Through the MCP Server, AI agents can autonomously perform operations on “Money Forward Cloud Accounting” on behalf of the user. Instead of traditional screen-based manual operations, users can complete accounting tasks such as journal entry, ledger searches, data verification, and report creation simply by giving instructions from their preferred AI agents. Money Forward’s MCP Server is compatible with major AI tools such as “Claude Desktop,” “Claude Code,” “Claude Cowork,” “Cursor,” and “Gemini CLI.”

There are local MCP servers, which run on the user’s PC, and remote MCP servers, which operate on cloud servers. While local MCP servers allow for direct access by having users build, manage, and maintain the execution environment themselves, Money Forward has offered the Remote MCP Server since the initial beta release to meet the needs for faster and easier AI utilization. Because the Remote MCP Server is built on Money Forward’s cloud infrastructure, users can securely initiate business automation with AI agents through simple connection settings, without the need for complex environment construction or setup.

Moving forward, Money Forward plans to provide additional features to further enhance convenience, such as extending authentication session times via the MCP Server and automating re-authentication.

■ Provision of APIs
By making the “Money Forward Cloud Accounting” API available across all plans, Money Forward enables integration with external systems, increasing the flexibility of data entry and referencing in accounting tasks. Initial foundational features include referencing and registering journal entries as well as referencing trial balances. Updates to further enhance convenience, including transaction detail operations and the expansion of referable reports such as departmental summary tables, are planned for sequential release.

■ Background
Money Forward is committed to realizing a new user experience (UX) where SaaS and AI converge, under the theme of “Shifting from Cloud to AI.” To achieve this, the Company has been advancing the development of APIs and the construction of the MCP Server as the foundation for this shift. To date, the API and MCP Server for “Money Forward Cloud Accounting” have been available exclusively to select professional service firms.* However, amidst rising expectations for environments where AI agents autonomously perform tasks on behalf of users, the company decided to open these features to all plans to deliver the value of high-flexibility data utilization and AI-driven automation to a wider user base.

*The MCP Server was provided as a beta version to professional service firms that are Platinum-rank certified members or higher. The API was provided to firms that are Silver-rank certified members or higher.
