Starting from the fiscal year beginning on or after April 1, 2027, the new lease accounting standard will come into effect for listed companies, their subsidiaries and affiliated companies, and large companies under the Companies Act.^*2 Affected companies will, in principle, be required to record all lease transactions as assets and liabilities (on-balance sheet recognition), resulting in significant operational burdens such as scrutinizing vast amounts of contracts, performing lease assessments, and establishing new management ledgers.

However, we have found that labor shortages remain a fundamental challenge for many companies regarding contract inventory, data entry, and complex lease assessment criteria.
