In Japan, known for its frequent disasters, people are becoming more aware of the need to prepare emergency supplies like water and food. However, financial preparedness is often overlooked. Having the necessary cash on hand in the event of a disaster and preparing an emergency fund for living expenses are extremely important for stabilizing life after a disaster. We hope you will use this checklist as a starting point to review your preparations for yourself and your family from the perspective of “money,” and to consider disaster prevention in terms of both safety and a sense of security.
■Background
Research shows that in recent years, as disasters such as earthquakes and storm-related damage have become more frequent and severe, awareness of disaster preparedness has been increasing. However, it also shows that self-help initiatives have plateaued, highlighting the need to create opportunities to encourage action*.
Upholding our mission, “Money Forward. Move your life forward,” we aim to eliminate everyone’s financial worries and solve their financial problems. We created this checklist with the hope that it will help people learn about the types of financial concerns and issues that can arise during a disaster, and by preparing for them in the familiar context of their household finances, it will allow them to rethink disaster prevention in a new way.
